The Challenge

The client in the case was GUD Filters.

The challenge faced with any Shelving Warehouse Floor is that it needs to be absolutely flat to prevent any deviation of high-reaching forklifts when they are fully extended. Thanks to our experience and product knowledge we could identify and specify a Self-Compacting Concrete mix design, chosen because in certain areas the floor would be too thin for a normal concrete to be vibrated, and because of its semi-self-levelling properties.

An additional challenge was that the original concrete slab was poorly installed, with huge undulations ranging between -50 to -102mm.

The Solution

We collaborated with AfriSam to create a mix design that would assist with the levelling of this surface whilst still remaining floatable.

The tolerance spec was 5mm over 3m – but we managed to limit it to 1mm over 3m.

Our product – a semi-self-levelling, self-compacting concrete intended to fix major undulations in a slab.
